What to Expect of the COVID-19 Vaccine

Now that there are maximum expectations that the vaccine for COVID-19 would be available in 2021, BioNtech and Pfizer have shown preliminary findings that 90% of people would benefit from this vaccine but conclusion of the advanced trials are still in the list to be explored. Pfizer is among only those authentic sources whose reports are reliable about the development of vaccines. According to its estimates, only 1.3 billion people would be vaccinated untill the end of 2021 and 10 million doses would be provide to the United Kingdom only at the end of 2020 if vaccine is prepared earlier. Oxford is also preparing a COVID-19 vaccine and it is expected to prepare 2 billion doses for the whole world.

Where a COVID-19 vaccine would reach is a simple question and its answer is straightforward, given by the authentic sources. After vaccine development, those areas would be immunized where the pandemic has done more damage than any other region. UK has given its plan that old-age people who are above 80 and health-workers dealing with COVID-19 patients would be vaccinated first. So the most dependent factor of vaccine is age. The older you are, the more chances you have to be immunized through vaccine.

Whether the vaccine is safe or not, trials for this purpose are still in the phase and if it proven more dangerous than the prevention of the pandemic, then there is no other way to repeat the process. Clinical trials of vaccine for Covid-19 would let the researchers know that either they are reducing the number of symptoms in patients or not. As COVID-19 is a pandemic so there is a need to produce doses in the billions. Regulatory authorities must approve the vaccine first when it is prepared and be ready to be applied for millions of people at same time. According to the official reports, 60-70% world’s population should be vaccinated in order to control the spread of virus.

There are number of other teams and companies working on the development of COVID-19 vaccine and they are also in advanced trial phases. The results of those trials are also expected within weeks and it can even take months. Several other vaccines from Sinopharm, Moderna, Wuhan Institute of Medical Sciences and Gamaleya Research Institute are also in final stages and their results are also expected within weeks or months. There are many other trials of vaccine that have been suspended because they have done more damage than the positive outcomes. Like in Brazil, a Chinese Firm, Sinovac’s resulted in the death of a volunteer during the trials and then it was banned from further procedures. There are total of three phases of vaccine trials. First phase is pre-clinical and then in the second phase of the trial, numbers of doses are created at risk. The final stage is only cleared when it is approved by the concerned regulation. Once the regulatory powers confirms the status of trial then the vaccine is ready to be distributed. It is a lengthy procedure in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, but results should be fruitful.
